What Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a non-invasive medical treatment in which a patient breathes 100% pure oxygen inside a sealed, pressurized chamber at pressures of 1.5 to 3 atmospheres absolute (ATA) — up to three times normal atmospheric pressure. This dramatically increases the amount of oxygen dissolved directly into blood plasma, reaching tissues, organs, and bone that normal circulation cannot adequately oxygenate. HBOT is FDA-approved for 14 medical conditions and is widely used off-label for 50+ additional indications under physician supervision. According to research published in the National Library of Medicine (PubMed Central), hyperbaric oxygen therapy has demonstrated significant therapeutic benefits across a wide range of clinical applications. Each session typically lasts 60 to 120 minutes, and treatment protocols range from 20 to 60 sessions depending on the condition.

Why Hyperbaric Centers of Florida

What Makes Us Florida's Best HBOT Center

When choosing an HBOT facility, safety and clinical expertise matter more than proximity. Here's why patients travel from across Florida and beyond to receive treatment with us.

Real 3 ATA Medical-Grade Chambers

We operate ASME PVHO, National Board, NFPA, and FDA 510(K) cleared Monoplace and Multiplace chambers capable of full 3 ATA pressure — unlike soft-shell "hyperbaric" spas that reach only 1.3 ATA. Real pressure means real results.

25+ Years of HBOT Expertise

Founder Stephanie Janca Davis brings over 25 years of hands-on hyperbaric clinical experience, having completed 60,000+ treatments. She is a nationally recognized HBOT consultant who trains technicians and pre-med students across the country.

Physician-Supervised Every Session

All treatments are overseen by Medical Director Dr. Stephen M. Strait, DO. Every patient receives written physician orders and a personalized protocol — not just a technician running a machine.

100% Medical-Grade Oxygen

We use 100% medical-grade oxygen with oil-less/oil-free breathing air compressors and Sea-Long Hoods, 100% cotton scrubs — zero shortcuts that compromise your safety or therapeutic outcome.

Monoplace & Multiplace Options

Choose between individual monoplace chambers or our multiplace chamber — where two patients can be treated simultaneously at a discounted rate. Flexibility in comfort and budget tailored to your needs.

Open 7 Days, 9 AM – 7 PM

We close only on major holidays. Our flexible daily schedule accommodates working patients, families traveling for treatments, and those on intensive multi-session protocols. We're here when you need us.

The Process

How Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Works

Understanding the science behind HBOT helps you appreciate why it's effective for such a wide range of conditions.

1

Enter the Pressurized Chamber

You relax inside a sealed monoplace or multiplace hyperbaric chamber wearing 100% cotton garments. The chamber is gradually pressurized to 1.5–3 ATA using medical-grade oxygen.

2

Breathe 100% Pure Oxygen

Under increased pressure, your lungs absorb far more oxygen than at normal atmospheric conditions. Oxygen dissolves directly into blood plasma — bypassing red blood cells entirely.

3

Oxygen Reaches Damaged Tissue

Oxygen-rich plasma penetrates bone, inflamed tissue, and areas with poor circulation. This triggers angiogenesis, reduces inflammation, and mobilizes stem cells from bone marrow.

4

Healing Accelerates Over Sessions

Therapeutic benefits build cumulatively over 20–60 sessions. Your medical team monitors your progress and adjusts your protocol to maximize recovery for your specific condition.

Conditions We Treat

HBOT for 60+ Medical Conditions in Florida

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy works by flooding the body with high-concentration oxygen under increased atmospheric pressure — a mechanism that supports healing across a remarkably wide range of diagnoses. Whether your condition is neurological, infectious, musculoskeletal, or related to wound healing, our physician-supervised protocols are tailored to your specific needs.

FDA-Approved Indications

These conditions have been formally approved by the FDA for HBOT treatment and may qualify for Medicare or private insurance reimbursement when deemed medically necessary — with written physician orders and prior authorization.

Off-Label Indications

Many of the conditions below are treated off-label — meaning substantial clinical research and real-world outcomes support HBOT, but formal FDA approval is still pending. All off-label treatments are administered under direct physician supervision with written orders from our Medical Director, Dr. Stephen M. Strait, DO.

  • No makeup, hairspray, perfume, or jewelry inside the chamber
  • HBOT is not recommended if you currently have a cold, flu, or ear infection
  • You may drive and return to normal activities immediately after each session

Side effects are rare and mild

Temporary ear pressure, slight fatigue, or mild sinus discomfort may occur. Serious complications are extremely rare in certified, physician-supervised facilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About HBOT in Florida

Answers to the questions patients ask most often before starting hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a non-invasive medical treatment where a patient breathes 100% pure oxygen inside a sealed chamber pressurized to 1.5–3 ATA. Oxygen dissolves directly into blood plasma and reaches tissues, bones, and organs that are normally oxygen-deprived. This triggers angiogenesis, reduction of inflammation, and stem cell mobilization from bone marrow. Sessions last 60–120 minutes. A typical course involves 20–60 sessions.
Hyperbaric Centers of Florida treats over 60 medical conditions. FDA-approved indications include diabetic wounds, osteomyelitis, decompression sickness, radiation injuries, gas gangrene, and carbon monoxide poisoning. Off-label indications include autism, TBI, stroke recovery, Lyme disease, cerebral palsy, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, RSD, sports injuries, Crohn's disease, and many more.
HBOT costs in Florida generally range from $150 to $600 per session. A full protocol of 20–40 sessions typically costs $1,500–$9,000+. We offer Multiplace Chamber discounts and a Founders Group pre-pay program. Call (813) 788-3969 for current rates.
HBOT is FDA-approved, non-invasive, and has an excellent safety profile in certified facilities. Minor side effects may include temporary ear pressure, mild fatigue, or slight sinus discomfort. Serious complications are extremely rare — further minimized by our physician-supervised protocols and ASME PVHO, National Board, NFPA, and FDA 510(K) cleared chamber systems.
A hard-shell chamber reaches 2.0–3.0 ATA with 100% pure oxygen — the clinical standard. A soft-shell chamber (sold online) reaches only 1.3 ATA with ambient air, which is insufficient for meaningful clinical outcomes. We exclusively use real hard-shell medical-grade chambers at up to 3 ATA.
Acute conditions may require 10–40 sessions. Neurological conditions (TBI, stroke, autism, cerebral palsy) typically require 40–80 sessions. Chronic conditions (Lyme disease, fibromyalgia, Parkinson's) often benefit from 40–60+ sessions. Most patients begin noticing improvements after 10–20 sessions.
HBOT is one of the most widely utilized off-label treatments for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Many children with autism have reduced cerebral blood flow and chronic neuroinflammation — HBOT addresses both. Clinical observations report improvements in speech, eye contact, social awareness, behavioral regulation, and cognitive function. Results vary by individual.
